01Record the response before changing settings.
Use one labelled synthetic test and record its time, page and visible response. If required fields are rejected, correct those valid test values first. Keep the same form and recipient while investigating; repeatedly submitting unrelated examples makes mail logs harder to match.
02Separate a sending failure from missing receipt.
Contact Form 7 documents a red-border response as failure of the wp_mail() operation. If the form reports success but the inbox is empty, investigate the later delivery path separately. Record both the displayed response and any available mail transport result instead of inferring one from the other.
03Check the Mail tab for this form.
Verify the To recipient and the From address. Contact Form 7 requires a From address belonging to the site’s domain. Check that mail-tags reference the intended form fields. If Mail (2) is enabled, diagnose it separately: the vendor says it runs only after the primary mail is sent successfully.
04Trace the marked test through transport and receipt.
Compare the test time and reference with the configured transport’s logs. Find the exact message in the controlled recipient mailbox, including its junk folder. A successful generic SMTP test does not establish that this form’s recipient and template are correct. Keep private message contents and credentials out of shared evidence.
05Confirm the correction through the public form.
After a targeted change, send one new synthetic test using the same route. Record the browser response and actual receipt separately. If a provider error persists, send the responsible hosting or mail team the relevant timestamp and redacted error details through your normal support process.
06Monitor the qualified path after the repair.
Record the working fields, expected confirmation and recipient as a baseline. LeadUptime can test a configured Contact Form 7 path and correlate a WordPress acknowledgement. That acknowledgement is not a promise of delivery to every inbox. Repeat qualification after relevant form, theme or mail changes.
